User Permissions Affecting Elections Activities

The functions related to elections can be configured to reveal features to some users and hide them from others. This is done by granting/withholding permissions to user types in VOTER FOCUS ADMIN > User Permissions. (See User Permissions in Voter Focus for instructions.)

The user permissions for elections activities encompass elections and places.

AddFilesToReportArchive

Add a file to the report archive.

AdminOverrideLock

Unlock a locked record, such as a voter registration, precinct, or place record.

User attempting to access locked record will see a message asking if they want to unlock it.

ChangeElectionFocus

Change the focused election in which the user is working. If the user does not have this permission, their focused election will be the default election.

DatabaseExportForKnowInk

Allows user to export data so it can be uploaded to the KnowInk electronic pollbook used in your jurisdiction.

DeleteFilesFromReportArchive

Delete a file from the report archive.

The Delete icon on the Report Archive dialog.

EACReports

Run the EAC Reports.

The EAC Reports option on the Voter Focus Reports dialog.

ElectionReports

Allows user to run election-related reports.

The Election Reports button on the Elections tab and the Election Reports section of the Voter Focus Reports dialog.

ElectionStatus

Allows user to change the status of an election.

The Change Election Status button on the Elections tab.

ElectionUtilities

Run these election utilities:

  • ESS Touch Screen VR Totals Export
  • Export Voter Information Lookup File
  • Schedule Provisional Disposition Letters
  • Schedule Letters for Changed Polling Places

MaintainElectionSettings

Run the programs on the Maintain Election Settings dialog.

The Maintain Election Settings button on the Elections tab and the following tabs on the Maintain Election Settings dialog:

PrintRegister

Print precinct registers that have already been generated.

The Print Registers button on the Elections tab.

ProcessLimitedBallot

Allows user to record certain ballot as Limited Ballots for reporting purposes.

The Process Limited Ballots button on the Elections tab.

ProvisionalBallotEntry

Record a voter's provisional ballot in an election.

The Record Provisional Ballot button on the Elections tab.

ReconcileHistory

Run the programs on the Reconcile History dialog, except for those on the Update Voting History tab, which is separately controlled by the UpdateVotingHistory permission.

RegisterHistory

Record voters' voting from precinct registers.

The Record Register History button on the Elections tab.

ReportArchive

View files saved in the report archive.

UpdateVotingHistory

Run the programs on the Update Voting History tab of the Reconcile History dialog

Note: The other tabs on the Reconcile History dialog are controlled separately by the permission ReconcileHistory.

Places

Gives user inquiry-only access to place records for the place types for which the user type is granted access.

The user type should also be granted one or more of the following permissions so that they can access the records for the place type:

  • Places:EarlyVotingSites
  • Places:ElectionCenters
  • Places:PollingPlaces

Places:Maintenance

Grant this permission to users who need to make changes to place information.

The user type should also be granted the permission Place (so they can see the Place Maintenance button on the Elections tab) and one or more of the following permissions so that they can access the records for the place type:

  • Places:EarlyVotingSites
  • Places:ElectionCenters
  • Places:PollingPlaces

Give this permission to users who need to view information on polling places.

To allow users to maintain this information, also grant the permission Places:Maintenance.

Places:EarlyVotingSites

Give this permission to users who need to view information on early voting sites.

To allow users to maintain this information, also grant the permission Places:Maintenance.

Give this permission to users who need to view information on election centers.

To allow users to maintain this information, also grant the permission Places:Maintenance.

PlacesFileStoreAddFiles

Allows addition of a file to a place record.

The Add File icon on the place record.

PlacesFileStoreDeleteFiles

Allows user to delete a file associated with a place record.

PlacesReports

Allows user to run the reports pertaining to places.
