Paychecks for workers can be printed directly from Voter Focus or they can be printed by an entity outside the elections office, such as the county finance department or a commercial printer. When check printing is performed by an outside entity, Voter Focus can be used to export a payroll file showing what each worker is owed.
Regardless of the method you use to print checks, as you work through the payroll process, it's important to keep in mind the method Voter Focus uses to determine what each worker is owed:
First it examines each election in which the worker has worked in the current year and calculates the total earned for all the year’s work.
Then it determines how much the worker has been paid so far this year.
The difference between the two is the amount to be paid in this payroll.
If your county separates the three work types—poll work, early voting work, and election center work—the payroll for the three groups of workers must be processed separately, within each work type. If a person served as a poll worker and as an early voting worker or election center worker, they will receive two checks: one for each assignment. Separate processing is not necessary, however, if you use only poll-work mode and record the work early voting or election centers as a pay item within a poll work position. In that case, workers will receive only one check.
Worker payroll can include pay for training-class attendance. This is enabled by selecting View > Options > Combine Worker school payments with work paychecks/export.
