Deny an Application for Voter Registration

This topic assumes that you are in the process of filling out an application for a new voter and you know that the application should be denied. For example, you might want to deny an application if the applicant resides in your county and you are certain the applicant has been adjudicated mentally incompetent or are sure the name on the application is fictitious.

Certain applications are automatically denied or marked as incomplete by Voter Focus without direct action on your part:

  • persons who selected the N-Citizen box on the voter registration application are automatically denied.
  • applicants who are under 16 years of age are automatically denied.
  • persons who did not select either citizenship status on the voter registration application are marked as incomplete. You must follow the procedure described below to deny these applications.

  1. On the voter's application form, enter all the information from the paper or scanned form and verify there are no omissions or errors in what you have entered.

  2. Click Set Denial Reasons.

  1. On the Denial Reasons dialog, select a reason for the denial.

  1. Click OK to return to the application form; then click Incomplete or Denial. Voter Focus displays a message indicating that the applicant’s status will be denied due to your selected reason.

  1. Click OK. A message displays their voter ID number. Write the number on the paper application in the box labeled OFFICIAL USE ONLY. Write your county name next to the voter ID and place the form in your file for denied applications.

    2. A Registration Application Denial Notice that includes the denial reason (or reasons, if more than one was selected) is scheduled for the applicant.

  2. Click OK to close the voter ID message and complete the process.

Applications that are denied do not undergo verification of the driver license, Florida ID, or Social Security Number by outside agencies. The records of denied voters cannot be modified; only their online application forms can be changed.
