About Precinct IDs
The precinct number style used by your county was set up by VR Systems in consultation with your staff. The selected style can be seen in VOTER FOCUS ADMIN > System Options > System Options > Precinct Number Style:
The style selection is unavailable because, once the style has been set, it should not be changed under normal circumstances, as this will cause precinct reports to present information in unpredictable ways. The only time a change to your county's precinct number style should be considered is during the redistricting period, when precincts are being redrawn and renumbered. During redistricting, should you determine that a different precinct number style will work better for your county, contact VR Systems for assistance in making the change.
The table here describes each style with some possible IDs that could be used with each precinct number style. Keep in mind:
- "9" in the precinct number style represents a number.
- "A" in the precinct number style represents a number or a letter.
- The slash marks (/) shown in certain of the styles don't actually appear in precinct IDs. They simply indicate the difference between the precinct and the precinct split and are replaced by a decimal in the ID.
- Your precinct IDs need not use all characters in the selected style. The characters in the style simply indicate the maximum length of the precinct ID and whether numbers or letters can be used. For example, the style 999A gives you a maximum of three numbers for the precinct ID (999) and one number or letter for the precinct split ID (A). So, with this style, you could have precinct IDs of 1, 11 and 111, but not 1111. The splits could be 1 or A, but not 11 or AA.
