Downloading Courses
When you download a course from the ELM library, you are making a copy of a course from another counties ELM System and downloading it to your ELM System. This includes the course, its settings, and the course content (including the course sections, test questions, and course resources).
Once the course is downloaded, the course continues to maintain a connection with the authoring county's course so that the course in your ELM system is updated when existing embedded images and videos are updated on the authoring county's ELM System File Share.
For example, if you download a shared course that includes an image of the ELM System Dashboard:
- If the authoring county updates that image file on their file share, your course will also show the updated image.
- If the authoring county deletes that image file from the Training Section in their local course, your course will not be impacted. The image will continue to appear as normal.
- If the authoring county deleted that image from their ELM System file server, that image will no longer appear in your course.
If you delete the images or videos referenced in the downloaded course and replace them with your own, your new images and videos will not be linked to the authoring counties course. As result, you may wish to save the images from the course content you downloaded to your local file server and then replace the images with your copy so there is no longer a link with the authoring counties server.
Only embedded images and videos links are maintained; no other course content is linked. You are free to modify the course in your ELM system any way you need to. It will not impact the authoring counties shared course.
If you download a shared course, and the authoring county later decides to unshare their course in the ELM Library, because you are now using a copy of the course on your ELM system, your course copy will not be affected. Links to embedded images and videos will remain as described above.
