This topic explains how to use Voter Focus to create an exportable database of voter information that you can load onto a VoterLookup workstation. For instructions on setting up a VoterLookup workstation to receive the database file, see the online manual VoterLookup Setup and User Guide for instructions. This manual can be downloaded from the VR Systems customer website or ask a VR Systems Customer Support representative to email a copy to you.
To create the database, you must be logged on to a computer that can run Voter Focus and SQL Server Enterprise Manager.
The database file you will be creating does not include all voter information for your county. It contains only information for voters who are eligible to vote in a particular election or elections. To specify which voter records are included in the database, you select one election. If there are multiple elections on the same day, or early voting for another election(s) is in progress on the same day, the voter information for all those elections will be included in the exportable database.
To create an exportable database file for VoterLookup:
Ensure that the election is the focused election. If not, click Change Election Status on the Console and select the election.
Go to ELECTIONS > Election Utilities > Export VoterLookup File.
On the Export Voting Day Data dialog, click Export. You will see a series of messages indicating the progress of the export program as it builds the database of voter information.
Note If you see a message such as, “Unable to locate SQL database,” you will need to stop the process and begin again on the machine where Voter Focus is installed (that is, the Voter Focus server).
When this message appears, click OK:
It means that the program has created the database and is about to load it with voter information. This process can take some time, depending on the amount of data being loaded.
When you see a message indicating that the export is complete, note the path to the database file (by default, I:\Vr6SharedBinaries\Export\MSDEVotingDay.mdf) and click OK.
The database is now ready to be installed on the VoterLookup workstation. See the online manual VoterLookup Setup and User Guide for instructions.
