How to
There are two ways to add a training class for Election Workers:
Create a new class from scratch.
Copy the information from an existing class and change any information, such as the description, date, and time, for the new class. This method is especially useful when you are offering several sessions of the same class.
NOTE: If you are creating a training class for ELM Students only, please see How to Create a Course for ELM Students.
Reminder: An ELM student is a student created in the ELM system only as opposed to an election worker, who is maintained in the voter registration database.
To create a class from scratch:
Go to ELECTION WORKERS > Train Workers to display the Class Maintenance dialog.
Optional. If you'd like the list of classes to show only those that are in the future, type today's date in the Show classes on or after field and press the Tab key. Then, in response to the message You have unsaved changes in this dialog, click Cancel. This will display all upcoming classes so you can see what is already scheduled.
Click New.
In the Edit Class Details box, the class number is automatically assigned. Fill in the following fields for the class:
In the Description field, enter the name of the class. If this class is associated with an ELM System Class Type, this name will appear in the Course Name field in ELM System.
In the Date/Time fields, enter the date and starting time for the class. If you don't enter AM or PM with the time, Voter Focus will insert AM when you tab out of the field. You can edit individual characters in this field if the correct date and time isn't displayed.
In the Location field, select the place where the class will be held. If the location isn't in the list, click Location Maintenance and add the location.
In the Class Type field, select a class type from the list.
In the Duration field, enter the length of the class session in hours, such as 2.5. When a worker attends the class, these hours are added to the class-hours total shown in their record.
In the Max Size field, enter the maximum number of students permitted in the class. Once this maximum number is reached, additional students cannot be assigned to the class. (The class name will not appear in the list of classes when you are making class assignments.)
Click Save Class to add the class to the list of classes.
To create a class by copying information from an existing class:
Go to ELECTION WORKERS > Train Workers.
On the Class Maintenance dialog, click the class you want to copy. The information for the class is displayed in the Edit Class Details box at the bottom of the dialog.
Click the down-arrow on the New icon and select New Class (like this one).
Fill in the Date/Time fields for the new class and change any of the other fields as necessary for the new class.
Click Save. The new class is added to the class list.
