At the end of an election cycle, it's good practice to change the status of all Temporary mail ballot voters to Canceled. This will ensure that, at the beginning of the new election cycle, the voters who are classified as mail ballot voters are Permanent Ballot By Mail voters. Temporary mail ballot voters whose status is changed to Canceled and who want to Ballot By Mail again must request ballots for the upcoming election or election cycle.
The Clear Temporary Ballot By Mail Statuses utility should be run on a quiet system after the yearly election cycle is finished.
This utility performs two tasks:
- Deletes the default ballot address and all Ballot Address for This Election addresses for voters whose Ballot By Mail status is Temporary or Canceled.
- Changes the Ballot By Mail status of all Temporary voters to Canceled.
The utility does not affect a voter record if it meets one or more of these criteria:
- Contains an all-elections request that has not yet expired.
- Has outstanding Ballot By Mail requests.
- The Ballot By Mail status is Permanent or FPCA.
