Set Up City and City-Ward Districts
To define your cities and their city wards, your Voter system has two district types—one for cities, another for city wards. Typically the system code for the city district type is CTY; for city wards it is WRD. However these codes are not required; your county can use other codes, if you prefer. Once the district types for city and city ward districts are set up in Voter Focus Admin, follow the instructions here to create and maintain your city districts and city ward districts.
District codes for cities and city wards:
- Must be numeric.
- Can be up to 3 digits long.

For each city in your county, you will need to create a city district.
- Click in the Dist Number column of the first empty row (indicated by an asterisk (*)) and enter a 0 (zero).
- Tab to the Description column and enter text such as County Only or Unincorporated Area.
- Tab to the Short Description field and enter text such as County. The text you enter here will appear in the field Short-DSC-CTY if used on voter information cards or other notices.
- Click in the Dist Number column of the next empty row (indicated by an asterisk (*)) and enter district code for the city in your county. City-district codes can be up to three digits long.
- Tab to the Description column and enter the city name.
- Tab to the Short Description field and enter the city name or some abbreviation of it.

For each city ward in your county, you will need to create a city ward district and associate it with a city district. City-ward district codes must be unique across the system. For example, you cannot have a code 9 in city 1 and the same code 9 in city 2.
Each city district must have at least one city ward district associated with it, even if there are no actual wards within a city. If you have a city without wards, create a dummy ward district that you can assign to the city. A city ward district is not required for city district 0, which contains the unincorporated area of the county.
