Update Precinct and Office Holder Information in Precinct Finder
The list of precinct names, addresses, and demographics and office holder names and contact information that is available for voters to view from Precinct Finder are exported from Voter Focus. When there are additions or changes to any of this data, such as precinct changes affected by redistricting, you must complete an export to transmit the updates to the web server. The current data is then displayed when voters link to Precinct Finder from your county's website.
-
In Voter Focus, go to STREETS & PRECINCTS > Export To Website > Export Precinct Finder Info to file.
-
When asked if you want to update Precinct Finder for a specific election:
- If you click Yes and select an election, Precinct Finder will be updated for the selected election, which means that any temporary polling place assignments for the election will appear instead of the normal polling place information.
- Clicking No exports the normal polling place assignments for all precincts without regard for any temporary polling place assignments made for a specific election.
Tip: Select No if you are updating office holders or the list of precincts.
The data is exported to a text file that will be automatically transmitted by the VRScheduler - UpdateWebHosting.exe program that runs every 20 minutes. See When is the data transmitted? below for more information
The data is transmitted automatically from your county's Voter Focus databases to our web server every 20 minutes by the VRScheduler - UpdateWebHosting.exe program. The next time the programs runs after your export, the data is sent to the web and available for view in Precinct Finder.
In addition to the automatic UpdateWebHosting 20 minute interval, data is transmitted in the following ways:
- Automatically each night — An export of ballot status, voter registration updates, voters moving into the county.
- Automatically over the weekend — Full export of current voter data. This export keeps precinct assignment and precinct statistic information up-to-date in Precinct Finder.
- Manually — If needed, your county can manually push a data transmission by running the UpdateWebHosting program from the Vr6SharedBinaries/Bin folder on your network.
The information that is transmitted by the Export Precinct Finder Info to File program and also by the automatic nightly and weekend exports is available to your county's voters in the following locations:
