The Eligible Elections List

During the vote-by-mail request process, the Mail Ballot Request Service displays a list of future elections that a voter is eligible to participate in and to request a mail-ballot for.

This list includes elections that the voter has already made a vote-by-mail request for, which they can modify using this service. The elections appear in order by the request deadline.

Elections that the voter is not eligible to participate in, or elections where the mail ballot request deadline has passed, do not appear to prevent unnecessary requests.

The following is included for each election:

  • The Select button is available for an All Elections Request or for one or more single elections. The elections included in an All Elections Request are only those for which the voter is eligible and that are scheduled through the next General Election.
  • Note:
    • If a request was already submitted for an individual election, the Select button is replaced by the Update Request button so an amendment can be made, provided the mail ballot request deadline has not passed.
    • If the mail ballot request deadline for an individual election has passed, the Select button is hidden for that election.
  • Election name
  • Election date
  • The deadline for requesting a mail ballot for that election.

Note: The deadline only appears when there is less than 24 hours left before the request deadline.
  • The status of mail-ballots previously requested for that voter for that election.

  • The ballot delivery address used if a mail ballot has been mailed to the voter for that election.

Status

Description

A request for a mail ballot was received on mm/dd/yyyy

This status appears when a vote-by-mail request has been received for the voter.

A ballot has been mailed to:

This status appears when a vote-by-mail request has been received, processed, and mailed to the voter.

Mail ballots cannot be forwarded by the post office, so if the voter will not be able to receive the mail ballot at the address specified in the A mail ballot will be mailed to field, they can request to have a mail ballot sent to a different address.

No ballots have been requested for this election.

This status appears if a vote-by-mail request for that election has not be processed in the voter registration system.

Elections After the Mail Ballot Deadline

The Mail Ballot Request Service is set up to automatically calculate mail ballot request deadlines and is designed to alert the requester if a deadline is approaching and prevent requests once the deadline has passed.

When the requester reaches the Select Election page:

If the mail ballot request deadline...

...then

Is approaching within the next 24 hours

A Mail Ballot Request Deadline field appears in the Eligible Elections list, alerting the voter that the deadline is approaching.

Passes while the voter is submitting the mail ballot request

The request is not submitted and an on-screen message appears, alerting the requester that the deadline has passed.

Has already passed

Individual Election Request

  • No prior mail ballot requests exists for an election—the Select button next to the election name is not present to prevent an invalid request and an on-screen message appears, alerting the requester that the deadline has passed.
  • Mail ballot was previously requested for an election—the mail ballot request deadline is highlighted red.

All Elections Request

A message displays under the Mail Ballot Status line to advise the requester that the All Elections request does not apply to elections with a mail ballot request deadline that has passed.

The default message states An all election ballot request does not include any election that has passed its deadline for requesting a ballot. The message can be customized for your county.
